Recently, the Third Council Meeting of the Second Session of the China Filament Weaving Association and the Promotion Conference on Clean Production Technologies for Chemical Fiber Weaving, themed "Intelligent Weaving and Clean Production," were held in Shengze, Jiangsu Province. The event was organized by the China Filament Weaving Association.
Li Lingshen, Vice President of the China National Textile and Apparel Council and President of the China Industrial Textiles Industry Association, delivered a report titled "High-Quality Development and Technological Innovation in China's Textile Industry." He pointed out that over the past five years, China's textile industry has shown steady progress and remains a significant contributor to the Chinese economy. The total textile fiber processing volume in China increased from 45.3 million tons in 2012 to 54.2 million tons in 2016, with its global share rising from 53.41% in 2012 to 53.47% in 2016.
Li Lingshen analyzed and summarized the current development status of China's textile industry. He noted that significant breakthroughs have been made in fiber new material technologies, continuous improvements in textile processing technologies, new achievements in energy conservation, emission reduction, and resource recycling in dyeing and finishing, rapid expansion of industrial textiles expanding the scope of the textile industry, substantial advancements in textile equipment technology and manufacturing levels, significant progress in technological innovation capacity building, and further refinement of the textile standards system.
He also highlighted the enormous challenges faced by the industry in its transformation and upgrading. The supply-side and structural issues accumulated during the industry's early development stages are becoming increasingly prominent; the comprehensive cost advantage is gradually weakening, facing dual pressures from developed and developing countries; the contradiction between overcapacity in some areas and effective demand is pronounced, with severe product homogenization; the pressure from national environmental regulations and environmental resource constraints on industry development is intensifying; the contradiction between innovation development and path dependency is severe, with low conversion rates of scientific and technological achievements and high innovation costs; the trade environment is becoming increasingly complex, with more factors influencing sustainable development and increased uncertainty. The industry's next development priorities will focus on fiber new materials, high-tech textiles, high-end equipment, intelligent manufacturing, and green manufacturing.
In response to innovation-driven development and transformation and upgrading in the textile industry, Cao Tingrui, Director of the Textile Division under the Consumer Goods Industry Department of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, proposed five suggestions: identify gaps, abandon old development models and thinking patterns, adhere to innovation-driven development, increase scientific research and development efforts, and form core competitiveness; strengthen foundations by formulating and releasing industry plans, standards, and industrial policies, with "Made in China 2025" providing direction and pathways for future manufacturing development, and intelligent manufacturing as the main focus; address weaknesses by targeting the objective reality of the textile industry being large but not strong, focusing on insufficient innovation capacity, inadequate brand influence, and bottlenecks and weak links restricting industry development; promote innovation by driving the textile industry towards the high end of the industrial value chain, leading with technological innovation, and achieving comprehensive innovation in design, production, management, sales, and business models; and set examples by using pilot demonstration methods to lead the industry towards high-quality development and strengthening the dominant position of enterprises.
Wang Jiayi, President of the China Filament Weaving Association, stated that in 2017, the industry experienced steady growth in production, with an overall prosperous production and sales situation. According to the association's tracking statistics on the output of chemical fiber filament fabrics in seven regions—Shengze, Changxing, Xiuzhou, Longhu, Siyang, Pingwang, and Keqiao—combined with the newly added capacity in northern Jiangsu, Anhui, Jiangxi, and other places, the total output of chemical fiber filament fabrics in China in 2017 was approximately 48.2 billion meters, a year-on-year increase of 7.59%.
According to statistics from China Customs, in 2017, China's textile fabric exports reached 29.889 billion meters, a year-on-year increase of 4.64%. Among them, chemical fiber filament fabrics accounted for a cumulative export volume of 14.122 billion meters, a year-on-year increase of 10.02%. Chemical fiber filament fabrics accounted for 47.25% of China's total textile fabric exports, an increase of 2.31 percentage points compared to 2016, maintaining their position as the largest exported fabric type, with an export contribution rate as high as 96.96%.
According to statistics from the National Bureau of Statistics, in 2017, the cumulative main business income of China's chemical fiber weaving and processing industry above a designated size reached 108.623 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 9.65%, with the growth rate increasing by 5.78 percentage points compared to 2016; the cumulative profit reached 5.175 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 23.13%, with the growth rate increasing by 19.98 percentage points compared to 2016; the profit margin was 4.76%, an increase of 0.52 percentage points compared to 2016.
Wang Jiayi stated that in 2018, the association will establish a green production technology reserve library focusing on sewage treatment, reclaimed water reuse, energy conservation, emission reduction, recycling, and reuse, and promote it to enterprises and industrial clusters; establish an expert team to provide guidance and acceptance work to enterprises, aiming to achieve 100% sewage treatment and 100% reclaimed water reuse in the entire industry within three years; take advantage of the opportunity of industrial transfer to build high-standard green filament weaving industrial parks; continue to carry out a series of activities under the theme of "innovation-driven, green development"; and launch a recommendation activity for intelligent weaving demonstration projects.
